The Quest for Gold
I am a Girl Scout Cadette currently working towards my Gold Award. My plan thus far is to create compaionship for the elderly and more compassion for younger middle school students by setting up a pen pal system, bridging the two groups.

Piper Shores letters almost done!
Hopefully next week all of Mr. Casey's letters will be back in (3 left!!!). It will be so nice to get them back. I also went over there to pick up all of the letters that were already done last week, between that and the phone calls to set it up I get to log another half hour for the project. Plus it was great to see Susan again, no Peggy though:/ She still plans to get through the rest of them at some point though which is a relief!

Big Week
To update since the last time I posted I have been working with Mr. Filieo and his class as well as Miss. Newton's class and all of their letters I just last Tuesday brought to Piper Shores, another local nursing home because I already distributed most of Mr. Casey's class letters to Village Crossings. I spent a really long time at Village Crossings when I was there (1 hr) talking with people and explaining the project. One lady expressed an intrest in having discussions about current event issues which could be interesting. I also went to talk to Mr. Fileo early one morning to talk with Miss. Newton and him about it (45 minutes) then the other day when I went to Piper shores I talked to the activities directors there for an hour and then went back to see Mr. Filieo and get the letters, spent another 2 hours prepairing the letters because they were designed for Village Crossings, not PS and It was such a funny morning because I spent an entire hour sitting in the middle school supply closet re copying letters with so they were addressed to PS instead of VC. After that I had to go through all of the letters whiting out anything that didn't make sense because if was for PS and anything that said anything about VC in it (ei "how is live at VC??") The letters were all really cute though and it looks like they will be fun to read! After the set up was finished, I went back to PS for 45 minutes to drop off the letters and talk with the ladies again.

I finally got all of my paperwork signed today for village crossings so at this point I'm waiting for Kathy to get back to me with resident names. Aaron Filieo also just emailed me that he wanted to help so with Paul Casey's class that's about36 students, which should be a perfect number. I probably spent about two hours total between all of the phone calls, emails and meetings. It's a little late but I'm happy with where I've ended up. As soon as those names come in I can pair them up and send the pairs off to the teachers, maybe come in and talk to the kids and get this show on the road. I think I'll message Kathy on Monday to see if she's done with the list. I'm a little afraid she'll forget or something.

Ug
I got an e mail today from Dawn about my p.p.. It needs a biography and then second page is missing. I need them in by the end of this week for the commity meeting. Also, she doesn't think I've planed enough (in terms of not putting any meet ups in the p.p.). Oh, and I'm not in Kennebec Council, that no longer exists, It's now Girl Scouts of Maine. So fix those two papers, drop it in, maybe fix GS of Maine, and maybe let someone know that I plan on having meet ups once I evaluate how things are going. Oh, and I need to speak with Mr. Connolly.

P.P. sent in!
Yesterday I sent in my P.P.! I had to copy all of the questions and answers that I'd written but wouldn't print normally into a word document and then send it through the mail. The due for the form date is when school starts, so the next time I post it will probably be about my getting started with Mr.Connolly or Village Crossings because I won't hear back from the council until after school starts.

The Effects of Procrastination
I finally had a very productive day yesterday. I got a ton of stuff off my to do list; I called Girl Scouts to ask about the sent back e mail and sent it in and I called Village Crossings to talk to Kathy Wiley and she says they're on board! Unfortunately today I got a message back from Dawn Wentworth, the woman in charge of the Gold Award at Kennebec Council, and she said although my proposal went through, it came in blank. I had to get Miss. Mackenzie and myself to sign the p.p. anyway so I'll just send a hard copy in then. Ohhh boy, I just need to find the time to get on that tomorrow. But Dawn also told me that I missed the p.p. deadline and the next one is September 6th which is also when school starts and Mr. Connolly will get back to me about the middle school and I'll follow up with V.C..

Yay! I sent in my project request form a few days ago, a little late, I had some issues putting it all together. Unfortunately I also got a return e-mail saying the form didn't send. You have to send the project request form in over e-mail but it sends in this funny way and I couldn't figure out who to send it to/how to send it so I don't know what I'm going to do about that. I will try to call Kennebec Council tomorrow. But then I also messaged Mr. Connolly, the middle school principal about getting things in motion with the kids. He suggested doing it with the kids as an LA assignment or as part of this monthly advisory group at the school. Good ideas, would make the kids be into it, and I'm super glad he's on board:)
