I am a Girl Scout Cadette currently working towards my Gold Award. My plan thus far is to create compaionship for the elderly and more compassion for younger middle school students by setting up a pen pal system, bridging the two groups.

I finally got all of my paperwork signed today for village crossings so at this point I'm waiting for Kathy to get back to me with resident names. Aaron Filieo also just emailed me that he wanted to help so with Paul Casey's class that's about36 students, which should be a perfect number. I probably spent about two hours total between all of the phone calls, emails and meetings. It's a little late but I'm happy with where I've ended up. As soon as those names come in I can pair them up and send the pairs off to the teachers, maybe come in and talk to the kids and get this show on the road. I think I'll message Kathy on Monday to see if she's done with the list. I'm a little afraid she'll forget or something.

Ug
I got an e mail today from Dawn about my p.p.. It needs a biography and then second page is missing. I need them in by the end of this week for the commity meeting. Also, she doesn't think I've planed enough (in terms of not putting any meet ups in the p.p.). Oh, and I'm not in Kennebec Council, that no longer exists, It's now Girl Scouts of Maine. So fix those two papers, drop it in, maybe fix GS of Maine, and maybe let someone know that I plan on having meet ups once I evaluate how things are going. Oh, and I need to speak with Mr. Connolly.

P.P. sent in!
Yesterday I sent in my P.P.! I had to copy all of the questions and answers that I'd written but wouldn't print normally into a word document and then send it through the mail. The due for the form date is when school starts, so the next time I post it will probably be about my getting started with Mr.Connolly or Village Crossings because I won't hear back from the council until after school starts.

The Effects of Procrastination
I finally had a very productive day yesterday. I got a ton of stuff off my to do list; I called Girl Scouts to ask about the sent back e mail and sent it in and I called Village Crossings to talk to Kathy Wiley and she says they're on board! Unfortunately today I got a message back from Dawn Wentworth, the woman in charge of the Gold Award at Kennebec Council, and she said although my proposal went through, it came in blank. I had to get Miss. Mackenzie and myself to sign the p.p. anyway so I'll just send a hard copy in then. Ohhh boy, I just need to find the time to get on that tomorrow. But Dawn also told me that I missed the p.p. deadline and the next one is September 6th which is also when school starts and Mr. Connolly will get back to me about the middle school and I'll follow up with V.C..

Yay! I sent in my project request form a few days ago, a little late, I had some issues putting it all together. Unfortunately I also got a return e-mail saying the form didn't send. You have to send the project request form in over e-mail but it sends in this funny way and I couldn't figure out who to send it to/how to send it so I don't know what I'm going to do about that. I will try to call Kennebec Council tomorrow. But then I also messaged Mr. Connolly, the middle school principal about getting things in motion with the kids. He suggested doing it with the kids as an LA assignment or as part of this monthly advisory group at the school. Good ideas, would make the kids be into it, and I'm super glad he's on board:)

Let's get things started!
School just let out for the summer and now it's time for me to begin my next project! I've been in Girl Scouts since I was in first grade, and I am still involved even though my troop disbanded two years ago. I've already earned my bronze and silver awards, now the only thing left for me to do at my current Cadet level is to earn my Gold Award. I've been brainstorming different ideas for the project since December, but I'm just getting around to working on it now. The goal of the project is to find a problem in your community and fix it in a way that the change can be sustained. I was orriginally tinkering with the idea of doing something with the enviorment in the wooded trails around where I live, but in the end I chose to do something for the elderly in my community who don't have a lot of family or other company near by. I came up with the idea of setting up a letter writing correspondence between some of the people in the nursing home in my town, Village Crossings, and maybe a grade or a class out of the middle school. I really want to try to create some excitement and companionship for the elderly at Village Crossings. I also think that the kids could benefit from the experiance, as well as from hearing the experiances of the people they are wrighting to if they give it a shot and take it to heart.
So now onto the project! Today I got started reading the project path requirements the whole way through, figuring out what I'll need to do and of course creating this blog! I've just been planning and getting my ideas in order so I can send the project proposal form into the Girl Scout counsil and get this project going! As soon as I go over the plans with my wonderful project advisor, Christine Mackenzie, I'll be able to fill out the forms and get to work!
